PromoScience Program 2018 Grant awarded to Huntsman Marine Science Centre

September 18, 2018 – To kick off Science Literacy Week, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) has announced $11.9 million in funding for 163 grants through the PromoScience Program. Huntsman Marine Science Centre is grateful to have been the recipient of a PromoScience grant valued at $43,700 for 2018 with the funds being directed to the organization’s Public Education and Outreach programs.

NSERC’s PromoScience Program offers financial support for organizations, such as Huntsman Marine Science Centre, working with young Canadians to promote an understanding of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields. PromoScience supports hands-on learning experiences for students and their teachers, which remains the focus of the Huntsman Education Department. Funds received through PromoScience help cover development and improvement of program content and delivery.

Huntsman Education Department has received PromoScience grants since 2000. The education programs offered at Huntsman offer hands-on education programs taught by highly qualified and experienced staff. Programs offered through the Huntsman Education Department include:
April – June: middle and high school field courses with curriculum connections
July – August:  summer field courses and day programs at the Fundy Discovery Aquarium
September – October: high school and adult field courses that comprise week long programs with curriculum connections
November – March: Ocean Discovery program for Grade 6 students in the Anglophone South School District.
