Community Turns Out for Emergency Department Tour

Machias - Over 150 community members came out to view the new Emergency Department at Down East Community Hospital last week.
An open house and reception was held for the many generous donors who gave to the project on August 30.  That was followed by a community open house on the 31st where attendees received guided tours of the facility.  All who attended were able to see the state-of-the-art facility that was built to give them and their families more privacy and comfort for their emergency medical care needs.  The long awaited viewing did not disappoint.  The hospital is expected to start seeing patients in the new facility on September 13. Once that takes place, the final phase of the project will begin.  The old section of the Emergency Department will be demolished and renovated.  The project is expected to be totally completed by November.
The capital campaign for the Emergency Department began in January of 2016 and, through the overwhelming support and generosity of the community, over 1.5 million was raised for the project by January 2017.
