18 year Old Killed In Accident - Aug. 08, 2017

On August 7, 2017 at approximately 2:13pm the Washington County RCC received a 911 call from an off-duty Deputy that had come upon a serious two vehicle crash on Rt 192 in Northfield in the vicinity of box 1580.  The RCC dispatched the Machias ambulance, Machais Fire Department as well as additional Deputies to the scene.

Initial information and investigation at the scene indicated a white pickup truck was traveling North on Rt 192 and is believed to have crossed the center line and collided with a Blueberry truck, partially loaded with blueberries traveling South toward Machias.  

Shortly after the Ambulance arrived on scene it was determined that the driver and owner of the White 2005 Chevy 1500 pickup, Cameron Roberts, 18 of Marshfield had passed away at the scene. The jaws of life were used to get a16 year old passenger out of the vehicle and he was life flighted to Bangor in stable condition. 

The White 1991 GMC was owned by Cherryfield Foods Inc. and driven by Shawn Sprague 44, of Addison.  Sprague was taken to Down East Community Hospital with minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation and Deputies are being assisted by the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle units and Accident Reconstruction Units.    The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Maine Marine Patrol, Maine Forrest Service, Maine Forrest Service, Machias Fire Department and Marshfield Fire Department.
