Wake,” a new dark comedy produced by the Machias Arts Council Theatre. Set against the backdrop of an Irish wake, this whimsical play features the Celtic God of Death, a Banshee, the Angel of Death, and other enchanting figures, exploring themes of mortality, culture, and the beyond.
Performances will be held on October 18th and 19th at the University of Maine, Machias Performing Arts Center at 7 PM, and at the Eastport Arts Center on October 25th at 7 PM and October 27th at 3 PM. Tickets are available at machiasartscouncil.org/theatre
We’re thrilled to announce that the talented Cindy Jollotta, a former Podunk Poet Country Star known for her performances at the Stage Coach Music Festival and opening for country legends like Merl Haggard, will be performing Irish music during the play
She grew up in Eastport and Perry and spent most of her life living and performing in and around Los Angeles before returning home. Her music can also be heard this spring when Machias ACT will be present the new musical Mental by her and Reynolds, which will be a great follow up for those who hear her performing Irish music for Wake.
Artist and writer Daniel P. Reynolds has been chased at gun-point through the streets of Brazil; narrowly escaped road bandits in the deserts of Morocco; was tear-gassed in the Paris riots; lost his fear of heights on top of the Great Wall of China; drank his way through the pubs of Ireland, and made the arts and theatre scene in Los Angeles his home for 16 years before moving to Maine.
Reynolds was inspired to write Wake during his time living on the west coast of Ireland. He has now settled in Downeast Maine with his wife, musician and Washington County native Cindy Jollotta.
His mission is to establish Downeast Maine as a premier destination for live theatre lovers.
