Facing Grief Together Down East Support Group

October 8 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center is excited to announce the launch of the following support group.

Facing Grief Together Down East Support Group

No one should have to face grief alone. This support group is open to anyone affected by any type of cancer, bereavement, and/or grief. The supportive gathering is designed to provide participants with the tools and encouragement they need to lead happy and healthy lives, even while battling cancer, grief, and/or bereavement. Meetings are held from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, beginning on October 8, 2024, at our Baileyville Center, 163 Main Street, Baileyville, Maine. Advanced registration is not required, and participants are welcome to attend as often or as little as they prefer. To learn more about any of our support groups or for information on participating remotely via Zoom, please contact Carrie Cropley at (207) 610-5152, Washington County or Megan Smith, at 207-664-0339, Hancock County, or email info@bethwrightcancercenter.org. Please place “Support” in the subject line of your email. For more information, please visit the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center website, www.bethwrightcancercenter.org.

This group is facilitated by licensed social worker, Sherry Roussel. Sherry was born in Maine and has lived in Washington County for more than 50 years. She graduated from the University of Maine with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, concentrating in Psychology. She holds a Maine State license in social work and has worked with Community Health Counseling Service for 22 years. She’s worked with children and adults throughout the community for years, but more recently, the last 9 years has been with home health and hospice services.

The Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center is expanding support services for patients in the Baileyville area and across Washington County. The Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center team understands that patient care extends well beyond the four walls of the cancer treatment facilities. There is no right or wrong way to grieve. Grieving is an individual process with no specific timetable. It takes as long as it takes to adjust to the changes in your life. Grief is a natural and normal response to change and loss period it ebbs and flows triggered by reminders dates and anniversaries. By offering an array of peer support groups, participants have the opportunity to share their stories with others facing similar challenges, learn new coping strategies and find encouragement as they navigate their journeys.

This support group is also open to anyone providing care to someone battling cancer, and/or grieving. While many programs focus on those going through their cancer journeys, the Beth Wright Cancer Center understands the important role that caregivers play in this process. Caring for a loved one with cancer or dealing with grief can be challenging, caring for yourself is important too! Join this group to learn how others are coping, strategies when caring for loved ones, or dealing with your own grief and ways in which you can practice self-care.

The Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center is a 501(C)(3) provides compassion, support, wellness groups, advocacy and education for patients, families, and friends in the midst of a cancer diagnosis, treatment and/or remission. Established in 2004, the center has two locations, one in Baileyville, and one in Ellsworth, and supports both Washington and Hancock counties. The nonprofit resource center was born from an organization created by Beth C. Wright, who died of breast cancer in 2000. Learn more at https://www.bethwrightcancercenter.org.
