Save lives and get a FREE Red Cross T-shirt! Whole Blood is the most common donation, and it helps all patients. Donors must weigh at least 110 lbs. and can have any blood type. Power Reds is the preferred donation for trauma patients. Power Reds allows you to safely donate two units of red cells and receive your platelets and plasma back with some saline.
The benefit to you: It’s a smaller needle, you get to sit up, and you feel better afterwards because you get fluids returned. The requirements for Power Reds are as follows:
-
Male: Minimum of 5’1” and 130 lbs.
-
Female: Minimum of 5’3” and 150 lbs.
-
Blood types required for Power Reds are A-, B-, O- and O+.
Come to give blood April 14-30 and get a T-Shirt. PLUS, get a chance to win a $5,000 prize! There will be three lucky winners. Terms apply: rcblood.org/hope.
The need for blood is constant and only volunteer donors can fulfill that need for patients in our community. Nationwide, someone needs a unit of blood every 2 to 3 seconds and most of us will need blood in our lifetime.
