Structure Fire In Baileyville Saturday Morning.

BAILEYVILLE, Maine (WQDY) – Baileyville firefighters, along with mutual aid from Calais, Princeton and Alexander fought a structure fire Saturday morning.
The call came in at about 7:55 am. Washington RCC dispatched firefighters to 5 Hillside street for a structure fire. Baileyville police were first to arrive and confirmed a working fire in a two-story apartment building. Assistant Fire Chief Brandon Ireland requested a working fire assignment and the mutual aid.
According to Assistant Fire Chief Ireland, first arriving units found heavy fire on the second floor and began an exterior attack due to the initial lack of man power, once proper staffing arrived on scene, crews made entry into the building attempting an aggressive interior attack. Due to conditions within the apartment crews were pulled out transitioning into a defensive attack until the fire was under better control.
Crews worked on scene for approximately 2 hours to bring the blaze under control. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time with assistance from the State Fire Marshals Office, but is not suspicious in nature.
Assistant Chief Ireland thanked all the mutual aid departments as well as Downeast EMS, Eastern Maine Electric and the American Red Cross for the help and support.
