The Calais School Committee met on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at the Calais Middle/High School Library. Attending were: Nicholas Barnett – Chair, Celia Geel (via ZOOM) Christopher Niles, Michael Chadwick, Calais School Committee Student Member and Mary Anne Spearin – Superintendent of Schools.
I. Call to Order/Introductions
Chair Nicholas Barnett called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and led the board in the Pledge of Allegiance and a Moment of Silence.
II. Consent Agenda
A. Motion by Christopher Niles, second by Michael Chadwick, unanimous vote to add an item to the agenda;
Discussion of changing dates of future board meetings
B. Motion by Michael Chadwick, second by Christopher Niles, three (3) votes yes, one (1) abstention vote to approve minutes from September 13th, 2023 meeting.
III. Public Participation
Yearbook Club made a petition to ask the School Committee to wait on approving a Yearbook Advisor until they have a chance to discuss their concerns. – Noah Hart presented the petition, but is not a part of the Yearbook Club.

Noah Hart – The three (3) students that will be attending the School Committee meetings will be Noah Hart, Keegan Trainor, and Bailey O’Rourke. Some activities they have done so far this year:

VI. New Business
A. Motion by Michael Chadwick, Christopher Niles, unanimous vote to approve an overnight trip for St. Croix Regional Technical Center on October 26th and 27th for the Leadership Conference in Bangor.
B. Act on electing the following Advisors:
Motion by Christopher Niles, second by Michael Chadwick, unanimous to approve Kelli Toole as Skills USA Advisor.
Motion by Christopher Niles, second by Michael Chadwick, unanimous vote to table electing Pam Allen as Yearbook Advisor.
Motion by Michael Chadwick, second by Christopher Niles unanimous vote to elect Bobbi Tardif and Julie Cummings as co-directors for Drama.
Motion by Christopher Niles, second by Michael Chadwick, unanimous vote to elect Amber McIver and Brittney Drew as Middle School Student Council Advisor.
Motion by Christopher Niles, second by Michael Chadwick, unanimous vote to approve Amber McIver as 8th Grade Advisor.
