Review of Eastern Prairie Fringed Orchid’s Threatened Status Underway

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is conducting a 5-year status review of the eastern prairie fringed orchid, a plant species listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.

This review is part of a broader initiative to assess the status of 4 plant and 10 animal species across the United States.

The eastern prairie fringed orchid is found in several states, including Maine, and the review will consider the best scientific and commercial data available since the last assessment.

Key factors in the review include species biology, habitat conditions, conservation measures, and threat status.

The public, along with federal, tribal, state, and local governments, is invited to submit new information or data regarding the species by March 4, 2025.

This process aims to ensure that the species’ status is accurately reflected and that appropriate conservation measures are in place.

The review could potentially lead to changes in the species’ listing status, depending on the findings.
