Over 200 professionals attended the first Maine Apprenticeship Summit in Augusta on Monday.
Governor Janet Mills opened the event with a proclamation for National Apprenticeship Week.
Mills emphasized that apprenticeships benefit workers, employers, and the economy by providing on-the-job training and stable, well-paying jobs.
Attendees joined sessions on scaling apprenticeship programs, starting new ones, and understanding labor laws.
Labor Commissioner Laura Fortman highlighted the historical roots of apprenticeships and their modern expansion in Maine.
The summit featured regional and national speakers and included business, union, and workforce professionals.
