Two-Hour Standoff In Calais Update

On October 15th, 2024, at 1430 hrs, the Calais Police Department arrested David Harmon, 45 of Calais on a warrant for failing to report to jail after an approximately two-hour standoff in a wooded area between Pleasant Street and Chandler Street in the City of Calais.

The incident began at approximately 1240hrs when a Calais Officers observed Harmon on Garfield Street in Calais and attempted to take him into custody on an active warrant. A foot pursuit ensued to the location in the wooded area.

Officers observed that the subject had a shotgun and was threatening to harm himself. At no time did the suspect threaten the officers. Pleasant Street and Chandler Street were closed during this incident.

At Approximately 1430hrs, Harmon surrendered to police on scene, and he was taken into custody and transported to Washington County Jail. The District Attorney’s office will review the incident and further charges are possible.

The Calais Police Department was assisted by the Baileyville Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, US Border Patrol and Calais Fire-EMS.
