Down East Hospice Volunteers is having a 5 day hospice volunteer training on October 16, 18, 20, 24, 26 at Calais Community Hospital. Times are 10:00 to 3:00 with lots of breaks. All days must be attended.
The Covid vaccine is NO LONGER required to become a helpful and much needed hospice volunteer in Washington County.
We know there are those of you who are on the fence about making this commitment, so please consider the following.
Have you spent time with a sick family member, friend, or neighbor? Have you run an errand for them, made a sandwich, walked their dog, read to them, taken them for a ride to get their hair done, to sit by the water, to get an ice cream? If the answer is yes, you can do this volunteer care. If you are a good listener and can be completely present for someone, you are on your way to being a compassionate hospice volunteer.
Hospice volunteers do not provide nursing care. We do not handle medications. You will not be expected to do hands on care. This is what the dedicated hospice nursing team provides.
We need both men and woman. You must be over 18 and have your own vehicle. You will never be asked to get involved in a situation that you find uncomfortable. You will offer care at your convenience. Some volunteers are snow birds, providing care when they return each year.
Down East Hospice Volunteers is the only volunteer hospice in Washington County.
We need volunteers from every town and every community. We are state licensed and the training is mandatory. Yes, it’s a commitment to take a 5 day training. If you can give the time you will find it is well worth it.
The training is informal, set up so you are comfortable and at ease. This is not depressing work. It’s something you have already done for those you know well. Please extend this care a little further to those you have not met yet. You will make a difference. Take the leap and come on board as a hospice volunteer, helping those we all care about in our communities.
We need time to do an informal pre-training interview after receiving your application. Get your application now! Call – 454-7521 ext. 9126.
