14 vehicles involved in Freeport crashes

On Sunday, August 13, 2023 at approximately 3:13 pm, Troopers along with Freeport Police and Fire Departments responded to the area of mile marker 22 north bound along I295 in the town of Freeport for a possible eight vehicle crash.  When the first Officer and Trooper arrived on scene they found that there were a total of five separate crashes involving at least 14 vehicles.  The crashes were strewn across about a half mile of interstate mostly on the median side.  Heavy down pours along with significantly heavy traffic were factors.  No major injuries were sustained as a result of the crash however one party was transported to Midcoast Hospital in Brunswick to be treated for minor injuries.  At least five vehicle’s, including a small boat and trailer where towed while the rest of the vehicles were drivable.  It took authorities just over an hour to have the scene clear and have both lanes back open.

Maine State Police would like to thank Freeport Police and Fire as well as Yarmouth Fire Department for their assistance in responding to and assisting with the crashes.

Atlantic Coast Towing and Copp Motors were utilized in towing any disabled vehicles from the scene.
